Sugar Gliders diet
Diet is a very important factor in keeping a healthy sugar glider. Serious health conditions will arise if your sugar glider is not feed properly. It really is a controversial as to what the best diet is for your sugar glider. There are many different diets available, they all have their ups and downs. I suggest that you do your own research and figure out what diet works best for you and your sugar gliders. Here are a few things to keep in mind when choosing a diet. A sugar glider's diet should consist of a protein source, vitamins, fruits, and vegetables. Don't feed them a lot of hard foods because it can lead to an infection in the jaw know as Lumpy jaw. Each diet is balanced with the right amount of vitamins and minerals. So do not mix them. Mixing diets can affect the balances resulting in too little or too much of something. Feed your glider a variety within your chosen diet plan. This will prevent food boredom, and ensures a balanced diet.
I feed my gliders every night around 9.
Here are two great diets that I have found and would recommend.
Original BML Diet Recipe
Put in blender:
- 1/2 cup of honey
- 1 egg (boiled or microwave, no shell)
- 1/4 cup apple juice
Blend well, turn off blender, add the following:
- One 4oz bottle premixed Gerber juice with fruit yogurt
- 1 teaspoon of Rep-Cal Herptivite Multivitamins (BLUE LABEL)
Blend until smooth, turn off blender, add the following:
- 2 teaspoons Rep-Cal Calcium with VIT.D3 Phosphorous-free (PINK LABEL)
- Two 2 1/2 oz. jars of chicken baby food stage 1
- 1/4 cup Wheat Germ
- 1/2 cup dry baby cereal (mixed or oatmeal)
Blend until you reach a very smooth consistency. Pour the BML mix into ice cube trays, cover, and freeze.
These is about right for two sugar gliders each evening.
1 ice cube of the BML mix,
2 tablespoons of frozen mixed vegetables and
2 tablespoons of fresh fruits
Once a month I will feed them scrambled eggs, chicken or meal worms instead of the BML mix.
I never feed them more than one treat a day.
I never feed them the same fruit two days in a row.
My sugar gliders favorite fruits are: pears, apples, and any type of mellon.
